In reaction to the outbreak of COVID-19, Movemeon developed an initiative titled ‘Consultants Against COVID-19‘. This initiative comprises of 400+ highly skilled consultants and ex-consultants willing and ready to provide their services for free to support any charities, public sector and other not for profit organisations in need during the crisis. Headed up by Jack Fitch and Clare Tsangari (who are also volunteering their support for free) they are matchmaking the best skills to key roles and creating awareness through a dedicated LinkedIn channel.
40+ consultants have currently been placed with a variety of public health organisations, charities and government at the national level. This is Devashish’s journey to supporting Carer Concierge, a social care start-up.
Where did you start your career/where are you going?
I am an MBA graduate(Class of 2020) from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and will be joining a leading Digital Transformation company. My career started 7 years ago with Accenture in 2013 as a fresh college graduate. I spent the next 5 years at the firms’ different business groups – Accenture Technology, Accenture Corporate Growth & Strategy, and Accenture Strategy gaining cross-functional, cross-entity experience while transitioning across various teams and roles.
What first attracted you to volunteer your time and join Consultants against COVID-19?
Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, my joining has been deferred and it was difficult to just sit idle and wait for things to unfold. Amidst the uncertainty, I came across Movemeon’s “Consultants against Covid-19” initiative and instantly decided to volunteer for the Pro-bono Consulting work. I have always wanted to help others and the initiative allows me to utilise my time, energy and skills towards a social cause.
What are the key aspects of your new role and how do they help support your new company?
In my current role with Carer Concierge, I am assisting the social care start-up and its board with a market study and analysis of the ageing/age-tech industries. The intent is to simplify and solve day-to-day care services for various stakeholders. I also intend to provide project management support to the team.
How has this worldwide pandemic affected you personally/your work life?
The pandemic delayed my return to work after completion of my post-graduate studies. The emotions have varied from excitement about re-joining work to being dismayed about inadvertent delays. A few weeks interval between B-school and work has now transcended into a long wait before things get formally settled. But despite this, I am staying positive, keeping myself motivated, healthy and fit.
What are you doing more of because of coronavirus?
I am spending a lot more time with my family members, reading about COVID developments in India and abroad. I even did an online Covid-19 Contact Tracing Certification from The Johns Hopkins University to understand the nuances of the disease and cross-skill myself. I believe that one should continue to learn whatever be the circumstances. Besides, I keep browsing for new opportunities, pursuing online courses, and attending webinars to stay abreast with the latest developments and happenings around the world. On the leisure side, I do spend time in virtual gaming sessions with friends.
Finally, what are you most looking forward to doing once social distancing rules have been relaxed?
I look forward to meeting my brother who’s currently working in a different city, as well as visit friends and relatives. Besides, I wish to complete certain pending tasks which have been indefinitely delayed. I do look forward to the return of normal with the easing of travel restrictions so that I can plan my next big adventure trip.
