You will operate as part of the Senior Leadership Team, influencing decisions throughout the organisation and bringing a commercial mindset that will support us to scale in a sustainable way. What you’ll do

Police Now is seeking a talented Head of Finance with core operational capabilities to manage the Finance function, as well as the ability to support the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in driving strategic growth. You will operate as part of the Senior Leadership Team, influencing decisions throughout the organisation and bringing a commercial mindset that will support us to scale in a sustainable way. The role is broad with full responsibility for financial management, supported by a Finance Officer and a Finance Coordinator, with more flexible resource to manage as we transition into a new operating model. The Head of Finance must be a strong team-player and communicator, who ensures that funds are used effectively across the organisation and that finance processes and systems support other teams to achieve our mission.

The Head of Finance will provide strategic financial inputs to help to guide organisational decision-making; develop, manage and coordinate the effective running of the finance function; reconfigure and replace the finance systems to be more effective; ensure the effective implementation of financial controls; manage the outsourced payroll provider; build the budget set with the COO and CEO and track expenditure via monthly management accounts; strategic financial planning and forecasting; support budget holders to make effective value-for-money decisions; develop transparent financial reporting; provide effective line management support and training to the Finance team; and propel Finance to become a strategic function which drives growth and performance, working closely with the COO to implement our strategy.

In addition, you will share your financial knowledge and experience with other staff members and help them to interpret financial data, to ensure that staff at all levels understand the financial imperatives of the organisation. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Head of Finance will attend regular meetings and support the other members to make informed and smart decisions.

Key accountabilities

Commitment: Role model the Police Now values acting as a senior figure ensuring responsible financial management and strategic decision-making.
Strategic finance: Develop a high-performing finance function, producing bespoke financial analyses to meet the Board and Senior Leadership Team requirements and help drive strategic decision-making. Advise and contribute to the growth plans of Police Now using strategic financial planning and costing.
Budget and cash flow: Compile the annual budget and regular cash flow ensuring a responsible allocation of resources and appropriate reserves to meet all of Police Now’s obligations.
Financial control: Compile monthly management accounts working with budget-holders to ensure effective financial management and appropriate cash to meet all current and future obligations. As the finance expert in the organisation, build capacity and train relevant staff on finance matters and develop appropriate controls.
Cost per participant (and other insights): Compile quarterly estimates of the cost per participant for Board reporting, refining analysis to better capture the ‘real’ cost of a programme participant.
Line management: Manage the Finance Officer, providing robust performance reviews, oversight and coaching. Provide support and training for the Finance Coordinators where required.
Projects: Lead on financial control projects, such as replacing finance systems, as well as being a key advisor and finance representative on company-wide change projects.

What you need

An Accountant qualification (ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA) with a successful track record of financial management gained in a professional services environment or a managerial post (in any industry)
Proven track record of delivering against stretching targets and goals, and ability to react responsively to a wide breadth of responsibility and input
Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate excellence in others and to influence senior colleagues successfully
Collaborative can-do attitude, looking for solutions in the face of adversity
Proven experience of working with senior stakeholders, including Boards and senior management
Strong emotional intelligence as communication and decision-making will impact all areas and levels of Police Now
Superb written and verbal communication skills and an excellent academic background
