They advertised on movemeon as they were looking for a Head of Operations. The successful movemeon member previously worked as a Senior Consultant at PPL Consultancy and graduated from the University of Manchester.

About us

Active Minds is the world leading developer and retailer of activity products for people with dementia. Through rigorous research and development, Active Minds is providing new and innovative ways to improve the quality of life for people with dementia and their carers across the sector. We have achieved 100% growth year on year and have ambitious plans to scale over the next three years. Our central London office is a fun and creative space with plenty of choices for lunch.

We have ambitions to maintain this level of growth and scale our activity into new regions. We expect to become the leading global designer of products to support people living with dementia in the next three years.

We are in the middle of a second investment round to accelerate growth and expand internationally. One of the key responsibilities of this role will be to facilitate and manage these growth plans.

The Team

We are a collaborative team with start-up, social care and product design backgrounds. We are currently a team of 7 with plans for 2 more hires this year. This role will have two direct reports (one to CEO) but will have responsible for overseeing day to day operations of the whole business.

We have a relaxed and collaborative atmosphere while people are working. We encourage dialogue and everyone does their best to bounce ideas around and support one another. Lunch is rarely taken at a desk as we prefer to eat as a team where ‘talking shop’ is banned!

Role Summary

We are now expanding further into international markets and investing in new products. To help with this we are looking for an experienced Head of Operations to manage the team, as well as develop and coordinate the business processes and supply chain. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years experience, covering both general operations and Supply Chain Management, and is looking to work in a dynamic and innovative environment.

Responsibilities

  • The Head of Operations will have full accountability for the day to day running of the business, overseeing the team as well as managing the post sales process and all supply chain.
  • They will be responsible for capacity planning, streamlining business processes and developing the long-term operations strategy. You will have a tenacious approach to continuous improvement with proven ability to implement changes that deliver increased operational performance and efficiency.
  • A person who demonstrates strong leadership qualities is essential. Alongside your responsibilities for coaching and developing the team and managing operations you will also contribute to strategic planning, developing the business and planning for growth.

As a key member of the management team, the responsibility and reach of the position will grow in line with developments in the company. It is envisaged this role will grow to a board level position over time.

Experience

Required

  • Proven track record of managing a team.
  • Proven ability to develop business processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting principles and practices.
  • Development of KPIs and management of business operations to those KPIs.
  • Proven track record in a Supply Chain management role.
  • Programme/Project management experience or qualification.

Desired

  • Experience in an entrepreneurial environment (either start-up or a similar environment in an established company.)
  • Healthcare experience.
  • Leadership/delivery in multi-functional teams, global teams or virtual teams
