The Role

Reporting to the International Project Director, the International Project Manager is a key member of the Discovery Education International team, responsible for developing and overseeing successful deployment of Discovery Education’s international strategy for both internal projects and external partnerships. The International Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring all activities, tasks, and deliverables are delivered on time and within budget, as well as monitoring and communicating the KPIs for each project.

The role includes originally supporting relationships with key partners with the opportunity to take on more of a leading role over time.

The role requires coordination of teams across multiple geographies and functions, such as product development, content development, marketing, strategy, finance, legal and operations

Specific responsibilities

The role will have three overall main purposes:

  • Project management– driving the overall success of the International team, including internal and external projects
  • Account management – initially take a support role but grow into taking a leading role in managing relationships with MOEs, large corporates, channel partners and other international partners
  • General/Sound delivery – taking on day-to-day tasks and responsibilities as needed to ensure all projects and opportunities and on track for success

Project Management for International Projects

  • Working closely with the Project Director to support the day to day project coordination of large international programmes, with a specific focus on the MENA and Asian regions initially but potentially other regions such as LatAm
  • Support the development of project scope, deliverables, and KPIs at project initiation
  • Create project plans, communications material, and collateral as needed to track the tasks and deliverables of each project component
  • Support and coordinate with all work streams to provide relevant information and key updates regarding tasks and deliverables
  • Identify and resolve issues as they arise in the project, enrolling team leads and notifying key stakeholders as necessary
  • Develop internal and external reports, monitor and track progress against KPIs established for overall success
  • Develop tools, processes, and best practices for project management and execution
  • Conduct interviews, focus group sessions, site visits to gather information and feedback related to the project
  • Provide timely and accurate feedback related to the project status
  • Use research, data, and metrics to continuously demonstrate the success of the program
  • Support ad hoc requests that are relevant and necessary for project completion

Account management

  • Manage partnerships, be the external point of contact, and manage the full implementation of the project for partners as the business grows
  • Ensure delivery leads to high client satisfaction and renewals
  • Identify upsell and cross-sell opportunities with current partners

General/Sound delivery

  • Maintain an understanding of industry trends, current events, anything that may impact the business by reading professional publications, researching all available prospect/product resources and participating in professional organizations
  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills
  • Understand new technologies and industry trends and be able to speak to how they impact Discovery Education
  • Establish strong relationships will International clients, vendors, and partners and DE colleagues across the business
  • Support the proposal writing process for business development and upsell opportunities

Basic qualifications

  • University degree
  • 5-7 years of project management experience
  • Ability to create and maintain project documentation, including project plans and reports tracking KPIs and key milestones of success
  • Experienced in risk management and the ability to flag potential issues
  • Task-oriented and strict attention to detail
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to adjust and adapt quickly
  • Ability to manage virtual teams across functions, geographies and business units
  • Strong stakeholder (internal and external) management skills
  • Ability to manage local support, sub-contractors, and vendors assigned to projects
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and balance competing priorities
  • Ability to “pitch in” and take on additional tasks as needed
  • Ability to develop and cultivate relationships, navigate cultural and political sensitivities, and manage various input from external stakeholders
  • Willingness to travel approximately 30% of the time with seasonal variations; including Asia and the Middle East and specifically Egypt, Saudi Arabia and UAE (and most likely other territories)
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills;
  • Proficient in MS Office (XLS, DOC and PPT)
  • Must have the legal right to work in the United Kingdom

  • Proven success in delivering large projects on-time and in-budget
  • Proven experience in successfully managing relationships with clients
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment
  • Given Sundays is the first day of the week in the Middle East, the willingness to be “on call” as necessary
  • International experience, ideal but not necessary
  • Experience in education, media, and/or digital industries, ideal but not necessary
