About us

Be the Business is building a movement of businesses who want to improve their performance. Chaired by Sir Charlie Mayfield (also Chairman of The John Lewis Partnership) and with other prominent Board members including, to name a few: Sir Roger Carr (Chair, BAE Systems), Ian Davis (Chair, Rolls Royce), Doug Gurr (UK Manager, Amazon), Carolyn Fairbairn (Director-general, CBI), Dame Fiona Kendrick (Chair & CEO, Nestlé UK), Be the Business has secured the buy-in of business and government stakeholders at the highest level. This, therefore, is an exceptional opportunity for impact and exposure.

Be the Business is bringing together companies large and small to make the UK home to the most ambitious firms in the world.

We promote and embed practices with SME leaders through a series of partners and programmes. Whether it’s finding new ways to incentivise and engage with staff, taking an honest look at business’s own leadership and management style or investing in the kind of tools and technology that will help prepare businesses for the next stage, there is no better way to tackle these kinds of challenges than by collaborating with others who have done it all before.

Our initiatives to date include a national business mentor programme, partnering with business schools and industry to make executive education more accessible and uniting localised communities of businesses through a common desire to share and learn. These are just the start of a national drive to improve Britain’s competitiveness and help us thrive on the world stage.
