About Us

PiP (Pursuing Independent Paths) is a leading organisation working with adults with learning disabilities, based in London. PiP has grown significantly recently and has worked hard to put itself in a relatively secure financial position. We continue to diversify our income base and increase our profile externally. We are surpassing many of the strategic targets we set for ourselves when our 2015-2018 plan was agreed, including a large increase in student sessions delivered.

Important issues have arisen which need to be tackled in order for us to continue to deliver on our charitable objectives.  This situation is both an opportunity and a challenge. Research has been undertaken around our current and existing target population, services, and our delivery model. A business plan has been developed and the preliminary decision taken to push ahead with a major expansion of our services. Project Beanstalk is the project’s name.

The Team and Project

PiP is run by a small but dedicated team who are experienced in running learning disability education services and supporting their students. A small fundraising team is engaged in raising the funds required to deliver Project Beanstalk, with significant early successes. However, in order to deliver the project, we require support which does not fit into the skill- set of existing PiP staff and volunteers. We are based near Maida Vale, in W9. Whilst much of the role can be completed off-site, we would value someone who is able to spend some time in the office each month.

Why you should apply

By joining PiP at this exciting point in our development, you will be able to contribute to making a real impact to the lives of people living with learning disabilities. Our new centre will allow us to support over 60 more adults with learning disabilities and autism in a fully accessible environment with state-of-the-art facilities.

This role is an opportunity to apply your consulting skill-set into the charity sector to achieve direct, measurable positive social change. The challenges that this role throws up are varied and interesting, whilst at the same time working with a friendly team, working at a senior level with the Director and Trustees, and having the chance to meet our students.

Key responsibilities

  • Project management – core project management activities, in particular owning the budget and project plan
  • Property search – leading the search for appropriate new premises, both on- and off-market. Ideally, this means finding a creative solution to PiP’s search for new premises (e.g. by partnering with another provider or developer).
  • Governance – helping the Director and Fundraising Manager prepare for monthly governance meetings with the board of trustees by reviewing progress, preparing board updates, and presenting to the trustee board.
  • Consultancy / advisory – Assisting with strategic planning and options analysis for the new centre, as well as being a sounding board for the Director.

Key skills & experience

  • Project management toolkit (suitable for the scale of PIP and the flexible/uncertain nature of this kind of project) and experience launching and delivering successful projects
  • Excellent oral and written communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to interact confidently at a senior level
  • Experienced in preparing strategic plans, budgets, and reporting
  • Ability to drive progress but also work alongside a diverse team
  • Ability to work in proactively, independently/self-starter with rounded skill-set, able to adapt quickly to changing circumstances and requirements
  • Analytic skills, particularly in a financial setting
  • CRM experience
  • Experience working in the charity world, particularly in fundraising campaigns, is desirable
  • Experience in procuring property off-market is desirable
