The Role

We are looking for an ex-consultant with 2-4 years experience to report to the Head of Retail Finance & Analysis, The role will have high exposure to the Retail Executive Committee, and will provide an ideal first move into industry.

The British Land Retail team undertakes c.1,000 lease transactions, c.100 capital projects and 5-20 more significant development projects each year. The Retail Finance & Analysis function is responsible for ensuring effective monitoring and prioritisation of this activity to enable the Retail Executive Committee to properly understand the team’s key value levers and prioritise resource and activity accordingly in pursuit of performance goals.

This wide-ranging role supports the Head of Retail Finance & Analysis in delivering effective management control through monitoring and reporting of status of this activity, structured prioritisation and active management of the most significant value creating initiatives. One component of this is the co-ordination of monthly management information to the Retail Executive Committee.

In addition to this asset activity, the role is responsible for overseeing a number of the organisational and operational processes which ensure that the Retail team operates efficiently and effectively as a whole.

Depending on capacity and the profile of the successful candidate, the role may also involve supporting the Retail Property Analysis and Business Development teams in their work which includes evaluating the performance impact of proposed transactions, identifying value creating opportunities through the evaluation of shopper and retailer data and supporting the regular property valuation process.

Key Responsibilities

(1) Monitor progress of all leasing, capital and development activity across the Retail team

  • Assist the Head of Retail Finance & Analysis in designing and implementing a structured approach to monitoring leasing, capital projects and development activity across the team, including prioritisation and summary status reporting
  • Maintain and enhance this process on an ongoing basis

(2) Actively project manage the most significant value creating initiatives across the Retail team

  • Co-ordinate multi-disciplinary effort on a small number (c. 5 at any time) of significant initiatives through high level project management

(3) Drive and maintain Retail team processes

  • Co-ordinate and steer the content of the annual asset planning process on our most significant assets (Vision Plans)
  • Oversee certain organisational and operational team processes e.g. objective and goal setting, maintenance of organisational structure charts, monitoring of headcount movements

(4) Maintain and enhance Management Information processes

  • Delivery of current monthly Management Information pack to the Retail Executive Committee
  • There is currently a significant opportunity to improve the accessibility and insights of Management
  • Information in this pack through assimilation and integration of reporting and analysis now being prepared by the Retail Finance & Analysis (benefiting from recent systems implementation) and Business Development teams as well as the activity monitoring process mentioned above

(5) Support Retail Property Analysis and Business Development teams

  • Scope to get involved in analysis undertaken by these teams depending on capacity and profile of the successful candidate

Requirements

Experience

  • Strong academics preferably degree level (or equivalent)
  • 2-4 years experience at top tier consultancy
  • Experience of identification and implementation of Process Improvements, Programme/Project Management, preparation of Management Reporting and Change Management
  • Experience preferably within FTSE 100 / 250 environment, either directly or in consultancy capacity
  • Real Estate / Retail experience preferred, but not essential
  • Proven track record of delivering on commitments to a high level

Technical knowledge and skills

  • Strong analytical skills to identify key value levers
  • Ability to interact and influence a wide range of stakeholders across all levels of the organisation
  • Preparation and delivery of concise, insightful verbal and written summaries of large amounts of data and management information
  • Ability to manage and prioritise a portfolio of responsibilities
