About Direct Ferries

Founded in 1999 by entrepreneur Howard Davies in the early days of ecommerce, Direct Ferries has over the years become one of the UK’s most successful travel businesses. Its success has been based on a number of factors, including developing and maintaining strong commercial relationships with ferry companies and building formidable strength in SEO across multiple territories and brands (including cheapferry.co.uk and other local domains). Whilst the ferry industry is large – the European market addressable by Direct Ferries had sales of £4.2bn in 2015. It is smaller than rail, flight, rental cars or hotels, which has meant that the giant OTAs such as Expedia have never moved into this space.

Today, Direct Ferries features the widest selection of ferry routes in the market, giving customers flexibility and choice as well as access to the best ferry deals around. Its selection includes 189 ferry companies (and the Eurotunnel), 2404 Ferry Routes and around 674 Ferry Ports connecting customers by sea to over 230 countries and islands. The website is available in multiple languages and currencies, and offers a number of booking choices, ensuring customers are able to book in a way that suits their requirements. Its customer satisfaction rating of 93% is testament to its breadth and depth of inventory, and commitment to providing a great customer experience.

A global company with offices across the World, Direct Ferries is present in numerous markets with a product localised for ferry travellers in the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Greece, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and China.
