About us

In 2004, a group of friends founded BoilerJuice, a new online service designed to help consumers find the best heating oil price in their area, quickly and easily. Back then, we broke new ground as the UK’s first price comparison service and a pure-play online business in a traditional sector. Today, we are the UK’s number one heating oil marketplace. Independent and impartial, we deliver oil to thousands of UK households every week, saving them time and money.
We’re an established company with a proven business model and a solid customer base that has kept the start-up mindset and is investing to accelerate growth.  This is not just scaling up by doing more-of-the-same. We are also creating new products that combine Internet-of-Things with smart data analysis to change the way a market works.
While we’re excited about what we do, we like to think we’re relatively down-to-earth. We don’t have a big hierarchy, a special dress code, or a company song about heating oil (though you would be free to compose one if it floated your boat).

In this role, you will

  • Work with the management team to identify the key questions, opportunities, and risks.
  • Add structure and clarity to the problems presented and prioritise them according to business benefit/effort.
  • Help us build a strong process for developing business cases at the right level of detail for the problem we’re addressing.
  • Make sure we can evaluate the impact of projects/initiatives we deliver.
  • Set up projects/experiments to answer the key questions or identify the right approach to business opportunities.
  • Manage some projects through to execution to deliver value and develop execution skills.
  • Help the business develop the optimum set of KPIs and the data and reporting infrastructure to match.
  • Play a key role in articulating the three-year strategy for the business and supporting the business planning process, including supporting New Product Development.
  • Investigate how we can make the best use of external data (e.g. weather, commodity prices, etc).
  • Work with the supply team to understand and improve the efficiency of the marketplace we offer so that customers benefit from the best price we can achieve.
  • Work with product and marketing to understand what works and drives value.  Help them design and execute experiments.

You’ll have

  • Strong business/commercial sense, practical judgment and ability to prioritise.
  • Natural curiosity, love of logic and problem-solving.  Ability to ask the right questions and derive insights from data.
  • Ability to manage and analyse large quantities of data using relevant tools/techniques.
  • Interest in/experience of how marketplace businesses work.
  • At least two years experience in a top-tier strategy consultancy, with exposure to analytical projects.
  • Really clear communication skills (verbal and written), in particular distilling complex problems & solutions for stakeholders.
  • Commitment, attention to detail and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to collaborate with others.
  • Desire to learn and to try new things.
  • Hunger for getting things done and achieving results that deliver real impact.
